SICK has developed a light curtain safety guard to reduce costs and improve reliability.

The C4000 monitors broken beam patterns at hazard area entry and exit to allow standard production flow while guarding personnel entry. The beam monitor distinguishes between production objects and people, which eliminates the need for extra muting sensors and lamps. When an object breaks the light beams, the C4000 assesses the broken beam pattern against previous data allowing standard sized objects to pass but detecting the pattern made by a walking person. SICK says that this erases the need for an unnecessarily complex detection set-up.
