Henkel gets a slight cosmetic boost in Q1

German consumer goods group Henkel has posted a 3% rise in sales to €3.25bn in the first quarter of 2009. However, pre-tax earnings fell sharply from €320m to €215m. The downturn affected mainly the industrial and adhesives sectors of the company. Sales in the cosmetics area rose slightly to €720m with pre-tax profits up at €90m from €87m in the same year-earlier quarter.
