Cosmetics manufacturers could reap rewards in the future if they can find an efficient way of creating nail polish without the plasticiser triphenyl phosphate (TPHP).
It was formerly believed that TPHP, a known endocrine disruptor, was not absorbed by the body. But a new study by Duke University and the Environmental Working Group, has found that women who painted their nails with polishes containing TPHP saw a sevenfold increase of a TPHP metabolite within ten to 14 hours.
