Halal cosmetics is enjoying a surge in popularity. Allied Market Research predicts a 15% year-on-year increase for the sector to US$54bn by 2022, buoyed by not-necessarily-religious consumers who are increasingly moving away from the use of animal-derived ingredients.
Increasingly, halal compliance is trumping considerations including packaging and organic ingredients, with 58% of Indonesian women preferring to use halal cosmetics (Research and Markets).
