Glossier expands Grant Initiative for US black-owned beauty businesses

Gen Z fave will once again pledge $500,000 in grants, having supported 16 businesses in 2020

Gen Z beauty favourite Glossier has pledged US$500,000 towards supporting black-owned businesses in the US this year.

The announcement follows the brand’s 2020 donation of $500,000 towards organisations fighting racial injustice and its first round of grants (also $500,000 in total), which helped support 16 companies last year.

The 2021 Grant Program is part of Glossier’s $10m commitment to bolster equity, inclusion and representation in the beauty industry over the next five years.

The brand, founded by Emily Weiss, spent six months supporting the growth of its grant recipients last year, which included Deon Libra’s editorial site; Luna Magic, which successfully pitched on US TV show Shark Tank; skin care brand Epi.Logic, which was picked up by retailer Violet Grey; and The Most, which became venture backed after years of bootstrapping.

The application process for Glossier’s 2021 Grant Program is now open until 27 May and interested businesses can find out how to apply via the Glossier site.
