Acting together for local communities and biodiversity
Since 2022, Gattefossé contributes to the Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD) IMPACT FUND. The Fund is an opportunity to collectively invest in projects that promote the responsible production of palm oil in the most direct way possible. For two years, the Fund has supported the Mosaik Initiative, developed and run since 2015 by Kaleka.
All with the objectives of protecting and restoring local ecosystems, developing agroforestry, improving the lives of workers and local communities, and meeting the needs of smallholders for responsible practices in two of the largest palm oil production districts in the province of Central Kalimantan - Indonesia.
Key Achievements
Laurent Schubnel, CSR Leader of the Gattefossé Group, accompanied by several members of the ASD collective travelled to Central Kalimantan to meet up with the Kaleka teams and visit some of the project's activities that the coalition has been funding for 2 years.
Between April 2023 and March 2024:
- 610 farmers have been certified by RSPO and 204 farmers in two villages have been involved in the certification process.
- 2,732 ha of forest in two villages have been protected through the Social Forestry and Village Regulation schemes.
- 100 ha of degraded land in three villages have been replanted.
"This inspiring mission revealed the palm oil value chain's complexity. I learned the importance of the jurisdictional approach by engaging with government, Independent Small Holders (ISH), and village representatives. ISH need support for implementing sustainable practices, such as better agricultural practices, while working also on ecosystem conservation to boost biodiversity. KALEKA excels in this with its multidisciplinary team in Indonesia." – Laurent Schubnel
