Fuji extends Astalift to Europe
Establishes beauty and health division
Japanese photographic group Fujifilm has set up a division for beauty and health and will launch a line of cosmetic products in France in March followed by launches in the UK, Germany, Spain and the US in 2012.
Fuji saw profits slump by some 90% in the period between 2009 and 2010 and has since searched for new forms of business including the development of its medical imaging operations. The emulsion used in film is a form of collagen, containing antioxidants.
The group introduced an anti-ageing care product Astalift as long ago as 2007 and this now has a 6% share of the domestic market. This will now be introduced in Europe, despite intense competition in this segment.
A dozen reference products will be included in the range, positioned in the upper reaches of the market with creams selling at between €70 and €80. Talks are underway with Sephora and other potential distributors.
