Fuji changes focus
Due to the camera film market's progressive decline, Japan's Fuji Photo Film company has decided to branch out into the world of beauty.
The company has developed f2i, a line-up of three skin care products, and f3i, a selection of nine dietary supplements. Fuji also claims to have developed chemical technology which can be used in the health care sector.
After buying a 22% stake of Perseus Proteomics at the start of 2006, Fuji's foray into pharmaceuticals could generate profits of up to ¥3bn by March 2007, according to the company.
The shift in focus has been underlined by the loss of 5000 jobs worldwide and a move to China for the production of Fuji's digital cameras.
