The European Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition by American chemical giant Huntsman of some Netherlands and US titanium dioxide plants operated by Tronox, also of the US.

Huntsman also intends to buy a 50% share in a Tronox manufacturing joint venture making this key sunscreen chemical in Australia. Brussels said there were no major European competition concerns.
