Internet-based auction house eBay has once again been condemned by a French court for allegedly damaging the brand of a company in the LVMH luxury products group. A Paris tribunal has ordered eBay to pay €200,000 in damages to Louis Vuitton.

The tribunal rejected a charge of misleading publicity on its site but found that eBay was guilty of using key words on its search engine visually and phonetically close to brand names.

LVMH was awarded damage of €38m against eBay in 2008 for alleged counterfeiting and illicit sale of products.
