Eastman debuts green biocatalytic process
Eastman Chemical Company is showcasing its green biocatalytic process at NYSCC Supplier’s Day this week. The new process allows chemists to avoid getting even trace levels of solvents in cosmetic products and eliminates the environmental impact of disposing of waste process solvents. This modification is said to complete the esterification highly effectively, after which the supported biocatalyst pellets are easily filtered from the product, facilitating catalyst reuse.

The single-step esterification reaction yields product that is 90% pure without further downstream processing, saving time, energy and material.
Eastman Chemical Company will be exhibiting its new process on booth 1221 at NYSCC Supplier’s Day, which takes place today and tomorrow at the Raritan Center in Edison, New Jersey.
