Demand grows for RSPO sustainable palm oil certification
Manufacturers seek to assure customers
Multi-sector certification body BM TRADA Certification Ltd says it has seen a dramatic surge in clients looking for certification under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Supply Chain Certification System.
“We are working with many more clients who have identified how important it is to their business to be able to provide assurance about the sustainability of the palm oil that they use,” says BM TRADA sales manager Andy Green. He says this reflects increasing international concern about the environmental effects of palm oil production. “We anticipate that the trend towards certification will continue to gather momentum worldwide.”
Environmental & quality manager of Glasgow-based Soapworks, which has already achieved certification with the certifier comments: “Achieving third party certification to the RSPO Supply Chain Certification System was vital for us to provide our customers with the assurance that the palm oil we use to make their products comes from a recognised, sustainable source.”’
BM TRADA says it was the first independent body to gain approval to carry out third party certification under the RSPO schemes in March last year and that it is still the only UK body with RSPO approval. It has a worldwide network of joint venture partners and representatives and has in-depth experience of supply chain certification, working with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and other national schemes.
