Clinical Efficacy Testing

Standard and custom-made protocols help you assess cosmetic efficacy and substantiate product claims. Clinical tests are conducted using state-of-the-art equipment and in participation of male and female volunteer panels with a wide range of dermal and ophthalmological characteristics.

Final reports include data interpretation and statistical analysis, high resolution images, an experts opinion and the panel’s documented opinion and questionnaire.

Namely some of the clinical efficacy tests are: Skin moisture tests, ophthalmological studies, anti-wrinkle, elasticity, skin whitening, comedolytic effect, sebum, anti-dandruff, redness, epilating wax tests.

Cosmetic Packaging

All kinds of cosmetic packaging materials have an interaction with the product contained therein. As a result, cosmetic products should also undergo specific testing procedures, to ensure product safety and consumer protection.

QACS Packaging Migration services respectively follow packaging related guidelines, analyse inert and non-inert materials for all cosmetic packaging types.

Patch testing

Dermatological tests and HRIPT support product labelling as dermatologically tested or hypoallergenic claims. QACS custom Patch testing methods, in line with Regulation (EC) no 1223/2009, Regulation (EC) no 655/2013, SCCS Notes and GDPR, can be conducted with a wide dermatological range of volunteer panels.

Studies are supervised by trained personnel and dermatologists. Facilities designed for dermatological testing support regulated environmental conditions based on product specifications.

Restricted substances

Traces and impurities testing is necessary for cosmetic marketability and safety related purposes. We follow Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on restricted, prohibited and allowed substances and run tests on heavy metals, impurities, nitrosamines, allergens, residual solvents, colorants- preservatives-UV filters.

Impurities testing includes among others phthalates, acrylamide, dioxane, formaldehyde and 1,4 dioxane testing analysis.

Stability testing

Product durability throughout shelf life is tested with stability protocols. Aesthetics, functionality, microbial quality and package compatibility are evaluated.

Stability chambers accumulate a number of climatic conditions of temperature and humidity to simulate intended transport, storage and use conditions. QACS provides stability, compatibility and storage space solutions.

Real time, accelerated, freeze-thaw, thermal stability and photostability represent QACS stability conditions to be held in standard or custom time intervals.

In Vitro

Assess the sensitisation, toxicity, efficacy and tolerance of cosmetics using in vitro testing protocols as an alternative to animal testing.

Epiocular eye irritation, epiocular eye corrosion, epiderm skin irritation are evaluated with custom in vitro studies following validated and in- house protocols.

Challenge

QACS, The Challenge Test Laboratory, provides Preservation Efficacy testing (PET) to evaluate the preservation system of cosmetic products. QACS supports companies R&D decisions and timing.

Challenge Test protocols include EP or USP 51, ISO 11930, Re-inoculation protocol, mixed culture and wipe challenge tests. Tests are scheduled on receipt, real time reporting of intermediate results support the QACS challenge test clients. A fast 14 day screening version is also available.

Safety Assessment

As stipulated in Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, it is mandatory to perform a safety assessment and compile the Product Information File (PIF) for cosmetic and personal care products prior to placing them in the European market.

Safety assessment is considered one of the most critical aspects of a PIF. CPRS should be thorough and justified and performed by a highly trained individual.

Safety assessment is a paper based toxicological review of the product’s formula, its raw materials, its tests and any other relevant information considering the product.

CPNP Notification

We compile the Product Information File (PIF) and notify your product in the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal (CPNP). The CPNP is a free of charge online notification system created for the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
