Cognis on eastern promise

Cognis has entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Thai Oleochemicals Ltd (a subsidiary of PTT Chemical Company Ltd) to produce and market fatty alcohols in Thailand. The new partnership will mark the first time a company has produced refined fatty alcohols in the country and will trade under the name, Thai Fatty Alcohols Company Ltd.

Richard Ridinger, group vp Cognis said: “We are delighted that this joint venture will further strengthen our co-operation with as strong a partner as PTT Chemical - one of Thailand's largest chemical companies - and support the continued development of the oleochemical industry in this country.”

A new facility in Rayong with an annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tons will become operational at the beginning of 2008, but the new partnership is expected to come into effect in mid-June 2006.
