Clariant provides paraben-free preservation
Launches 100% natural hydrotrope and emulsifying agent
In response to the ban on the use of propyl and butyl parabens in products for children under the age of three by the Danish authorities and the Scientific Community on Consumer Safety’s (SCCS) proposed ban on iso-butyl-paraben and restriction on the use of propyl and butyl parabens in cosmetic formulations, Clariant has launched a 100% natural hydrotrope and emulsifying agent that supports the cosmetic industry’s move towards lower preservative levels. Veslan SC is a synergistic aid that boosts the performance of standard preservatives like aromatic alcohols and organic acids. As a result, it decreases the overall amount needed for safe preservation reducing the odour issue associated with some preservatives. When used in combination with non-listed actives, manufacturers can make preservative-free claims.
The product is claimed to be low odour, non-sensitising and non-irritating and is suitable for both rinse-off and leave-on cosmetics. It is also non-halogenated and without the potential for formaldehyde release.
