Clariant has unveiled a range of 100% bio-based surfactants and polyethylene glycols (PEGs) to help remove fossil carbon from the value chain.
The introduction expands Clariant’s Vita designated ingredients line-up, which are based on renewable feedstocks and have a Renewable Carbon Index (RCI) of at least 98%.
Clariant uses 100% bio-ethanol derived from sugar cane or corn to create the ethylene oxide for the new surfactants and PEGs with the bio-based material fully segregated along the value chain from the field to the final consumer product.
The ingredients have significantly lower carbon footprints than their fossil-based counterparts, helping save up to 85% of CO₂ emissions compared with traditional versions.
Suitable for use in hair and body shampoos, as well as detergents, the Vita surfactants are said to be chemically equivalent to Clariant’s fossil versions, offering the same performance and efficiency to formulators and brand owners.
