Chemical industry discusses animal testing and REACH

The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) invited representatives of animal rights group Anti Dierproeven Coalitie and the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE) to a meeting with its issues team on 7 September as part of a cooperation between the chemicals industry and animal rights NGOs.

Alternatives to animal testing were discussed and a new position paper on animal alternatives and REACH was presented, according to Cefic.

Cefic’s Long-range Research Initiative (LRI) programme supports research on the reduction, refinement and replacement of animals and the council believes this approach will maximise the impact on overall use in the chemical industry.
