Sales of the cosmetics industry in Italy rose 1.7% to about €8.2bn in 2007 with ex-pharmacy sales up 8.5%, natural health product shops 8% and those through perfumeries 3%.
Sales of the cosmetics industry in Italy rose 1.7% to about €8.2bn in 2007 with ex-pharmacy sales up 8.5%, natural health product shops 8% and those through perfumeries 3%.
These together provided coverage of 26% of the national market. The major distribution groups posted a modest increase in growth last year - about 0.5% - and accounted for 40% of the cosmetics market. Exports dipped by 0.4% to €2.2bn owing to tensions in European markets, dollar depreciation and changes in asset distribution by some multinational companies.
The highest concentration in consumption terms was in northern Italy which accounted for 29.5% of care products and 30.6% of products for professional use. Lombardy alone accounted for 19% of total cosmetics consumption followed by Lazio with 9%. The south of the country and the islands represented 31% of the cosmetics market.
