Brands across the beauty category have secured spots on Barron’s 2019 Top Most Sustainable Companies line-up.
The American weekly newspaper is published by Dow Jones & Company and releases reports of company’s performance throughout the year, including Top 100 Financial Advisors Boards.
Estée Lauder, Colgate-Palmolive, both up 18 places, and IFF, up 34 places, were the three beauty companies to be listed; consumer electronics company Best Buy secured the top spot, closely followed by networking hardware firm Cisco Systems, while analytical instrument manufacturer Agilent Technologies took third place.
Colgate-Palmolive and Estée Lauder also made the Top 5 Consumer Staples list in third and fifth, respectively.
As part of its sustainability efforts Colgate-Palmolive has been working to reduce its manufacturing water intensity, replenish water withdrawn in high stressed regions, responsibly source forest commodities, reduce energy and promote renewable energy.
US cosmetics brand Estée Lauder has reduced its carbon emissions by 36.3% since 2017’s fiscal year and diverted or recycled 87.8% of waste materials.
Meanwhile, IFF’s Chairman and CEO, Andreas Fibig, intends to put sustainability at the forefront of the business.
He said: “We will continue to lead positive transformational changes to support the wellbeing of our consumers, the health of our planet and the integrity of our business.”
It is specifically working to address climate change, source ingredients responsibly and innovate regenerative products.
