Auto analysis
Analytical instrument specialist Thermo Electron Corporation has added a Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) capability to its TriPlus robotic GC auto sampler. According to Thermo Electron, the new SPME will increase laboratory productivity by offering a one-step process for sample presentation without requiring hazardous solvent usage.
The new technology will be configured with new TriPlus auto samplers but will also be available as an upgrade for existing machines. The SPME capability consists of a dedicated fibre holder that is added to the basic system, and the complete SPME cycle, from fibre pre-conditioning to sample absorption and desorption phases, is automated.
Benefits of the new addition include the ability to agitate sample vials during the absorption process, enabling faster equilibrium. Agitation is said to be very gentle, helping to eliminate any mechanical stress of the fibre as well as extending its lifetime.
