Amazon’s first-ever Fresh store has finally opened in the UK capital.
After months of anticipation, consumers – and competitors – are able to take a look inside Jeff Bezos’ contender in the food retail market.
Tapping into the UK’s £200bn market, the Ealing store, London, goes up against Sainsbury’s, ASDA and the UK’s largest bricks-and-mortar firm Tesco.
But unlike its opposition, Amazon’s horse is not a one-trick pony, and its never-before-seen shopping experience is expected to turn the food retail market on its head.
The destination has opened with a first-of-its kind for retail shopping, complete with ‘just walk out’ technology, allowing visiting customers to simply walk out of the shopping location with their goods once they’re done.
However, entering the store is where the security lies. Customers must scan the Amazon app with their mobile device and items will automatically be added to their bill and the goods will be charged to their Amazon account.
For beauty shoppers, Amazon has also brought its online offering in-store.
Products on sale include Gillette, Dove, Sanex, Simple and Garnier, while fresh food will also be available from the store daily.
Shoppers can also reserve shopping and pick up their Amazon parcels via the store.
Opening hours are from 7am to 11pm.
