If you haven’t yet got your application in for this year’s RSPCA Good Business Awards this Friday (27 June) is the deadline so it’s time to complete those forms and get them in. If you’re worried about meeting the deadline, give the RSPCA Good Business Awards team a call on 0300 123 0488 or email them at awards@rspca.org.uk.
The RSPCA Good Business Awards recognise ethical business approaches to animal welfare in the beauty, fashion, and food industries. “Cosmetics companies are well aware of the growing consumer demand for cruelty-free products, and most are already including animal welfare in their ethical business policies,” says David Bowles, RSPCA head of external affairs.
Jo Fairley, awards judge” and co-author of the Beauty Bible series, says: “Over and above setting policies, we want to encourage companies to be pro-active and publicise welfare concerns as well as ensuring alternatives to animal testing are continuously being developed. Some companies will have further to go than others, so the innovation award will recognise the effort that has been made in the past year, however big or small.”
Lush won in the cosmetics category last year for its overall commitment to animal welfare and for promoting animal testing alternatives while M&S was awarded for being the most progressive company of the year after implementing a cruelty-free policy on cosmetics.
Entrants this year will be judged on the basis of their practices in:–
– Testing of cosmetics products on animals
– Testing of cosmetics product ingredients on animals
– Providing clear and informative product labelling
– Commitment to replacing animal testing with alternative testing methods
– Company aspirations regarding animal welfare
All entries will be judged by an independent panel of industry experts and winners will be given the RSPCA Good Business Awards logo to use in promotions for an entire year, so customers can recognise their achievements. Winners will be promoted on the RSPCA website, in SPC and on cosmeticsbusiness.com and achievements will be detailed in an ethical consumer guide.
Entry questionnaires can be downloaded from the RSPCA link on this site.
The RSPCA Good Business Awards gala ceremony will be held at the Natural History Museum, London on Thursday 9 October 2008.
