The French perfumes group Interparfums has posted strong growth in first quarter 2012 with sales rising by 24.6% over the year earlier quarter to €110.8m. The company reported very high demand - well above expectations - for the Jimmy Choo and Montblanc perfumes.

Jimmy Choo sales went up 68% to €11.8m, while Montblanc perfume rose 77% to €11m, aided by the steady success of the Montblanc Legend line. Burberry put on growth of 12% (€54.3m), helped by Burberry Body, while Lanvin posted a like 12% for sales of €15.7m.

Interparfums described the markets overall as active with North America surging upwards by 68%, propelled by the US subsidiary Interparfums Luxury Brands. The US company has been responsible for the distribution of the Nina West perfumes since the start of the year. The Asian region grew by 22% with western Europe remaining 'stable'. Sales in France went up by 15%.

The company has not so far issued a forecast for the rest of 2012 and discussions with Burberry over the establishment of a perfumes and cosmetics arm are continuing.
