Shiseido has announced its net profits rose 29.3% in the period between April and December in 2007, compared to figures from the previous year.

Although the company is the largest cosmetics manufacturer in its home country of Japan, Shiseido attributed the rise to expanded sales of higher-margin products in China, which offset a drop in domestic sales. Other factors given included low marketing costs in Japan and a relatively weak yen.

Shiseido posted a net profit of 26.21bn yen for the April-December period, up from 20.27bn yen in 2006.
