Find Silverson Machines on stand 904

This year at SCS Formulate, visitors will be able to see a few of Silverson Machines’ revolutionary cosmetic mixing solutions on their stand as well as in action during the live mixing demonstrations.

On the stand

Multipurpose Laboratory Mixer

This mixer allows users to mix, emulsify, homogenise, disintegrate and dissolve effectively and efficiently all within the lab. With a capacity from 1ml up to 12 litres and the ability to mix in-line, these mixers provide an accurate and easy means of forecasting the performance of larger Silverson models in the range.

AX Series Pilot-Scale Batch Mixer

Bridging the gap between the lab and full-scale production, Silverson Pilot-Scale mixers are ideal for batch sizes of up to 50 litres. The model on the stand will be a wide base model - ideal for accommodating larger volumes and vessels. The Stainless-Steel construction allows it to be used for processing at higher temperatures.

Flashmix Powder/Liquid Mixer

This range of mixers provide high-speed powder incorporation ideal for formulations requiring large amounts of gums or thickeners. The hopper allows for minimal operator input and controlled powder addition. With the Flashmix, users can achieve homogeneous, agglomerate-free results time-after-time.

Mixer demonstrations

Taking place on both days of the exhibition, Silverson Machines will be taking part in free mixer demonstrations. They’ll be showcasing the use of their Laboratory High Shear Mixer for different applications in the cosmetics industry.

Tuesday 11th November at 2pm: A Collaborative Demonstration on Producing an all Natural, Sulphate-Free Shampoo - stand 904

In this mixer demonstration Silverson Machines will be collaborating with Holiferm. Holiferm is a biochemicals manufacturing company with a focus on biosurfactants. These clean, mild and eco-friendly molecules are created using a fermentation process with an integrated gravity separation technology from 100% natural ingredients. They can be used in a range of products spanning cosmetics, personal care, home care and I&I.

In this demonstration, they’ll be showing THE Shampoo – an ultra-milk, COSMOS approved and powerful cleansing shampoo. This sulphate free system uses carboxymethyl cellulose to achieve a great rheology using the Silverson mixer to disperse the cellulose before adding mild surfactants including their HoliSurf LF for a deep clean that looks after hair, scalp and the planet.

The demonstration will illustrate how to formulate effective natural products, and how a Silverson high shear mixer allows the user to overcome some of the manufacturing challenges associated with the dispersion and hydration of gums and thickeners.

Wednesday 12th November at 11am: How Emulsions and Gels Can be Formulated to Obtain a Wide Range of Functional Properties - stand 904

This demonstration is taking place in collaboration with Tumi Siwoku, Principal Chemist at Beauty Science UK. Using the Silverson Laboratory mixer, Tumi will be demonstrating how emulsions and gels can be formulated to obtain a wide range of functional properties. During the demonstration she will be illustrating how a Silverson high shear mixer enables the user to manufacture quickly and efficiently, whether in the laboratory or at production scale.

Silverson Machines are pleased to be working with Tumi again, after collaborating together on two cosmetic application videos earlier in the year.

The first video shows how a Cold Process Gel can be formulated using a Silverson Laboratory Mixer. In this video, Tumi shares her experience in the cosmetics industry and walks Silverson’s James Cardus through the step-by-step process of creating a clear, viscous, aeration-free gel. She explains how pH-sensitive polymers like acrylates copolymer respond to sodium hydroxide and how proper mixing technique makes all the difference. The resulting product is a cold-processed gel base. These neutral gels are widely used across the cosmetics and personal care sector, serving as the foundation for gel moisturisers, styling products, topical treatments, and various skincare formulations, and can be easily customised with active ingredients, fragrances, or colourants.

The second video focuses on creating Hot Process Emulsions, again at laboratory scale. Both the Hot and Cold process videos solely use a L5M-A Silverson Laboratory mixer to create the products, highlighting the versatility of this piece of mixing equipment.

In the Hot Process video, Tumi explains the concept of a Hot Process Emulsion and how the Silverson laboratory homogeniser enables the formation of high-quality creams and lotions. She also explains the different phases, the ingredients in each phase and the importance of mixing each of the phases at the correct temperature. Viewers are able to see how the Silverson Laboratory mixer is able to maintain uniform mixing throughout, delivering a consistent, stable emulsion.

Both videos are available to watch on the Silverson YouTube channel.
