Shampoo is expected to grow faster than hair colourants and styling agents over the next five years

Shampoo is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 3.6% over the next five years in Japan, according to a new report from Canadean.

Although hair colourants currently account for the largest value and volume share of the Japanese hair care market, totalling 31.7% and 31.6% respectively, shampoo is expected to outpace this sub-sector. Styling agents are also expected to grow faster than colourants over the next five years, at a rate of 3.4%, while colourants are predicted to grow at 3.3%.

Looking at the wider picture, hair care is actually one of the slowest growing sectors in Japan, with a predicted CAGR of 4% to 2017. It ranks in sixth place behind oral hygiene, although ahead of male grooming.
