Ahead of tonight's Pure Beauty Global Awards 2021, Cosmetics Business catches up with drag queen, singer and RuPaul's Drag Race UK contestant Tia Kofi to discuss all things beauty and hosting the record industry event.
Why did you enter RuPaul's Drag Race UK and what was its impact?
I entered Drag Race, because it's the biggest chance to challenge yourself and do things that you'd never even thought you would sort of have the opportunity to do.
I fully went into it thinking that I've got all these skills that I can put into practice and just that maybe runway looks were arguably a downfall of mine. You can't be a drag performer in the UK and not see Drag Race as an incredible chance to showcase and challenge yourself.
But the response has been absolutely incredible and it was great to showcase my style on a bigger scale. We're moving back into times where live performances can happen, so I'm excited about actually being able to interact with people in real life, and not just on Twitter.
What is the story behind the style of Tia Kofi?
Well, there are many different versions. Pre-Drag Race, it was, because I'm part of a drag group, was about the necessity for us to have matching outfits. Then, as I started to do more things on my own, I started to experiment with lots of different bits and pieces.
