RAPEX warns of hair care product bans
Hydroquinone and excessive formaldehyde among the culprits
EU consumer protection network RAPEX has warned of a series of hair care products being discovered containing substances banned by the EU cosmetics directive.
Czech authorities banned Polish product hair dye 111 Noix Dore for containing 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine and hydroquinone. Irish authorities reported a recall of a US-made hair straightener, Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution, for excessive formaldehyde and methyldibromo glutaronitrile content. Also, Portuguese customs blocked imports of colouring shampoo, Bio Extratus Homem, for containing the ingredient CI 51319 (Violet 23).
