Nearly 30 years after her death, the music legacy of ‘queen of jazz’ Ella Fitzegerald will be honoured in a new fragrance designed by TurnKey Beauty.
Founder and CEO Vincenzo Spinnato said the EDP aims to capture a rich, sultry, jazz club feel and will be formulated with a rose scent, one of Fitzgerald’s favourite flowers.
He was selected by the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation and Ella Fitzgerald's licensing and brand management agency Evolution USA.
TurnKey Beauty will oversee this project from concept to launch including product development, manufacturing and packaging.
"The Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation is thrilled to partner with TurnKey Beauty to create a scent that honours the Queen of Jazz,” said Travis Rutherford, Chief Revenue Officer and co-founder of Evolution.
“We look forward to bringing the essence of Ella in perfume form to generations old and new."
Spinnato believes there is “no better singer in the world” than Fitzgerald.
"It's going to be a wonderful, unique, collaborative effort between Ms Fitzgerald's Foundation and I, to create just the right scent to honour this icon and national treasure," he added.
"I am honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility of helping to continue Ms Fitzgerald's legacy and ensuring that a new generation falls in love with her song books as I have."
Known as the ‘first lady of song’, Fitzgerald’s music was said to help break down racial barriers and pave the way for other African American performers.
"Ella Fitzgerald and her timeless elegance has touched all of us in some way with her singular voice," said Rutherford.
"She could sing sultry ballads, sweet jazz and imitate every instrument in an orchestra."
Fitzgerald joins the list of celebrities and musicians who have been honoured with beauty collections inspired by their lives.
In October 2022, Whitney Houston’s Estate launched a fragrance inspired by the late singer’s signature style.
Pat Houston, Executor of the estate and Houston’s sister-in-law, worked with perfumers to develop a scent inspired by the star’s personal fragrance collection.
