Arch Personal Care Products has developed an exciting new addition to its recently launched rheology modifier platform, ViscUp EZ. A highly efficient, cost effective viscosity builder with outstanding pH tolerance, ViscUp EZ [INCI name: Sodium acrylate/sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer & hydrogenated polydecene & sorbitan laurate & trideceth-6] was developed specifically for cosmetic and personal care applications.

Designed for high efficiency and fast viscosity building, ViscUp EZ is an anionic acrylic polymer dispersed in an emollient and is used to thicken aqueous solutions and to stabilize o/w emulsions. In skin care formulations it is said to impart a smooth, silky feel without any tackiness. The polymer is compatible with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients including anionic and nonionic additives, with applications from sprayable lotions to creams and hair care formulations. Due to its ease of use, ViscUp EZ polymer can also be used to “quickly fix” or stabilize formulas that may have stability issues.

It is designed to work under the challenging conditions of both high and low pHs. The results of a pH dose response study indicate that while the ViscUp EZ polymer provides compatibility over a wide pH range, outstanding results are found at pH 3-5. ViscUp EZ is said to be widely compatible with other cosmetic ingredients including glycerin, glycols, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and silicones. Formulations based on ViscUp EZ are claimed to be UV stable, resulting in no colour change or viscosity degradation upon UV exposure.
