On the back of its findings, the direct-selling beauty brand has unveiled a global ‘gallery’ for women to connect and share their stories of achievement

More than 40% of women globally have lost their confidence as a direct result of the Covid-19 lockdowns, a new survey by direct-selling beauty favourite Avon has found.

The research, conducted on 8,000 women, also recorded 92% have felt increased pressure during the pandemic due to financial stresses (47%) and being unable to see loved ones (49%).

But a coping mechanism for women, Avon found, is hearing similar experiences to their own and being able to share their stories with others.

On the back of these results, Avon has enlisted the help of model Ellie Goldstein and Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse to launch a global ‘gallery’ of women to share their stories and connect with other women around the world.

The My Story Matters Gallery, launching ahead of International Women’s Day, celebrates women’s triumphs and reflects on the different experiences of women and girls around the world.

Mabuse and Goldstein were the first to share their stories on the platform and have been joined by others that have expressed their battles with breast cancer, domestic violence and juggling careers with being a mother.

“Everyone has their own story to tell in life and Avon’s gallery offers a safe place for women to post their inspiration stories and read about others' experiences too,” said Goldstein.

“I am proud of the barriers I have broken down throughout my career and in sharing my story, I believe I can give other women hope of achieving what they want in life. Never give up following your dreams.”

Avon’s platform is also trying to combat stigmas among women who said they feel judged when sharing their struggles on social media.

Almost 30% said they do not believe anyone would be interested to hear their story, while 40% do not like to talk about themselves.

“Avon’s mission is to help women overcome the barriers and challenges they face, becoming the most they can be, so this International Women’s Day we’re reclaiming our connections, we’re finding new and judgement free ways to share stories, listen to others and find inspiration in experience,” added Angela Cretu, Avon’s CEO.

“Avon’s My Story Matters Gallery will give women a place to speak up, share their stories and celebrate their achievements. It will collate authentic stories from around the world, showing that women are strong, courageous and powerful and that they should never be underestimated.”

She continued: “The more stories we can gather and the more positive role models we can commend, the more impact we will have.”

For every story shared Avon’s foundation will also donate US$1 to charities that support women.
