The British Beauty Council (BBC) has announced a new beauty-focused event set to take place alongside London's prestigious Fashion Week.

London Beauty Week will take place in Covent Garden’s Beauty Quarter from 11-15 September and aims to celebrate the industry’s contribution to the UK economy.

This month, the BBC published its ‘Value of Beauty’ report, which analysed the economic, social and business impact of beauty.

It found the industry contributed more than £28bn to the UK economy last year and employs nearly 600,000 staff.

The report said: “The scale of the beauty industry’s contribution to the economy is primarily driven by UK consumer spending on beauty products and services.

“This not only creates business for retailers but supports a large supply chain that makes up the backbone of the beauty industry.”

The beauty industry in numbers

  • UK consumers spent £8bn on beauty services in 2018
  • One in 60 of all jobs in the UK are related to the beauty industry
  • 65,000 people achieved a beauty-related qualification in 2018
  • £7bn is contributed in tax annually
