Fashion and beauty discovery platform connects shoppers with retailers presenting cross-brand options based on search criteria

Ebates, a subsidiary of digital services company Rakuten, has acquired ShopStyle, the fashion and beauty discovery and search website.

Buying the platform from PopSugar, Ebates hopes the takeover will strengthen its position in product discovery and enhance its expertise in fashion.

ShopStyle allows consumers to search for products by keyword, price or store, before presenting results across brands, if this is not specified.

When a consumer clicks on a product, a new tab automatically opens redirecting them to a partner retailer’s website.

In cosmetics, ShopStyle’s top brands include Boujois, Givenchy, Moroccanoil, NYX and Real Techniques.

Kevin Johnson, CEO of Ebates, said: “We’re thrilled to work with ShopStyle and PopSugar to connect even more shoppers with the right retailers through unique digital content.

“Content commerce is critical to the future of ecommerce, and ShopStyle is the natural fit to help us reach the next level of market leadership.”

Meanwhile, Brian Sugar, CEO of PopSugar, added: “We are excited that ShopStyle will accelerate its growth by leveraging Ebates’ expertise in ecommerce.

“At the same time, this will provide PopSugar the opportunity to further invest in and double down on our position as the leading global media lifestyle company for young women.”

Ebates and PopSugar have also announced a content commerce partnership to develop online content to drive traffic to sellers.
