Annemarie Kruse reports

Germany has a strong independent perfumery retail industry. The majority of perfumeries are privately owned stand-alone stores and there are smaller regional chains with anything from two to ten outlets. In addition there are the perfumery departments of Germany’s department store chains Karstadt and Kaufhof which are found throughout the country.

And then there is Douglas. With its 440 German stores the Douglas group is the undisputed leader of the German perfumery industry. There is no other perfumery chain that even comes close to the overwhelming market power of Douglas, and this makes the company one of the most important players in the entire German perfumery market.
