COSMILE Europe is available in 14 languages and provides information on 30,000 cosmetic ingredients

The European trade association for the cosmetics and personal care industry has launched a cosmetic ingredients database for consumers.

Cosmetics Europe’s COSMILE Europe is currently available in 14 languages and provides information on almost 30,000 ingredients used in cosmetics.

The aim, said Cosmetics Europe, is to provide reliable, verified and scientifically supported information to European citizens.

Information includes ingredient properties, function, whether they are man-made or of natural origin and which types of products they are used in.

The ingredient information on COSMILE Europe can be searched for by common ingredient names, INCI names, groups of substances or product type.

“Cosmetics Europe is delighted to be sharing this tool with European citizens,” said John Chave, Director General of Cosmetics Europe.

“There’s a deluge of information on cosmetics on the internet and it can be difficult to know which sources are reliable.

“The European cosmetics and personal care industry wants to provide European citizens with a simple way to access reliable, verified and scientifically supported information on cosmetics ingredients.”

The initiative has been developed with the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW), in collaboration with the French Fédération des Entreprises de la Beauté (FEBEA).

COSMILE is available in Bulgarian, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian and Spanish, with more languages expected to be available next year.
