An exciting opportunity to join a Business Development team, working with a very diverse client base including Cosmetics and Personal Care, Detergents, Chemicals & Medical Devices and API for Pharma. Noting that, experience in all fields is not strictly necessary as training can be provided as required.

The Applicant should be in an existing Business Development or Technical Sales role, have a proven & successful track record and be ready to join a dynamic and forward thinking sales team.

The ideal Applicant will have primary responsibility for developing the existing growing Healthcare and Beauty Products and toxicology/regulatory area with multinationals and related entities across a wide range of industry sectors mainly in the UK. The Applicant will have significant responsibility and autonomy in developing business opportunities that provide high value to corporate clients and other organisations whom are interested in services related to regulatory toxicology, personal care products and other areas we are looking to develop. You will be responsible for the development of new business and the expansion of existing business, specifically within the Leicester offices but not exclusively.

The job holder will report directly to the Business Development Director for the two laboratories and will provide active engagement with both new and existing clients to increase sales penetration. The primary focus will be the cultivation of client relationships in order to drive growth.

To meet the deliverables of the role, the main duties and responsibilities will be linked to sales generation and flexible KPI’s (mainly client contact both face-to-face and telephone):

  • Promoting the key services delivered by Healthcare & Beauty especially Toxicology/regulatory activity and other components of H&B.
  • Enhancing the penetration of key potential and existing customers.
  • Identify and pursue key potential business opportunities through research, networking and prospecting.
  • Achieve personal targets for conversion of new business.
  • Maintain a complete and updated status of all information relating to contacts, meetings and accounts, updating databases as appropriate.
  • Maintain effective on-going communications with customers and colleagues including networking with other Business Development personnel across the Intertek Group and attend exhibitions and sales conferences where applicable.
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging trends, changes in legislation etc that can benefit Intertek in future prospecting.
  • Monitoring needs from customers and collect potential benchmarking information.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience and be well networked in the cosmetic and personal care products industry, be articulate, an effective negotiator, be computer literate and used to working on their own initiatives. It will also be necessary to be a good team player with the ability to focus on achieving target driven results. Previous sales experience and management of key accounts would be a distinct advantage as will be multi-lingual capabilities. Excellent communication skills and a current driving licence are essential.

Travel

Domestic travel to clients, prospects and Intertek sites will account for a minimum of 60% of the working time (or 3 days per week) and intermittent international travel may also be required. A company car will be supplied commensurate with the job grade along with the working tools, mobile telephone and laptop, required for a Business Development role.

Qualifications and Requirements for the Role

The role is one of challenging technical sales within our science based toxicology and regulatory group in these industry sectors and as such the following qualifications are mandatory:

  • Qualified at Bachelor level, or equivalent, within a technical field.
  • Proven sales experience, within a multi-disciplinary organisation that offers technical business services. This includes a strong track record of progressive sales achievements.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships within both Intertek and client companies.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional backgrounds and at multiple levels through client interaction. A strong communicator is absolutely critical to this role.
  • A pedigree in Account Management either from scratch with new opportunities or through active penetration of existing clients.
  • Enthusiasm and Creativity.
  • IT literate across Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • It is desirable that the applicant is well networked in the cosmetic and personal care products industry, be articulate, an effective negotiator and have the commercial edge to ‘close the deal’.
  • Preliminary experience in these industry sectors and robust network of customer contacts (possibly through a service provider) would be attractive.
