Albemarle and Amyris partner to create synthetic renewable base oils

Oils to be marketed by Novvi under the name NovaSpec


Speciality chemicals manufacturer Albemarle Corporation has entered into a manufacturing agreement to supply base oils to Novvi SA, a joint venture between Amyris and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio which is focused on the production, marketing and distribution of renewable base oils using Amyris’ renewable farnesene, Biofene.

Under the agreement, Albemarle will serve as a custom scale-up and production partner for synthetic, renewable base oils for the lubricants market. Novvi meanwhile, will market NovaSpec, the venture’s synthetic renewable base oils to finished lubricants manufacturers globally.
