Neutrogena has voluntarily recalled its Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes in four US states due to possible bacterial contamination.
The Kenvue-owned brand has recalled 1,312 cases of the 50-count, 25-pack make-up remover wipes after an internal investigation found that some items tested positive for Pluralibacter gergoviae – a bacterium resistant to preservatives typically found in cosmetic or hair care items.
Wipes with the lot number 1835U6325A were recalled in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Texas.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has assigned a Class II risk level to the recall.
Kenvue said in a statement sent to Cosmetics Business that it has recalled the item in the US “out of an abundance of caution”.
The parent company’s statement read: “The health and safety of the consumers who use our products is our top priority.
“Despite meeting release specifications, one (1) lot of the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes, 50 ct, may have been impacted by procedural deficiencies observed during manufacturing.
