Natural C&T soars in France
Sales of natural cosmetics are booming in France as demand for 'natural' goods - products made from plant extracts and natural ingredients and containing minimal levels of synthetic compounds - continues to grow. According to a new study by Organic Monitor, the number of products in this category grew by 40% in 2005 and this is set to continue. The research company highlighted the potential of organic products.
The colour cosmetics and natural deodorants segments saw the highest levels of growth in the natural product sector and manufacturers are responding to consumer demand to develop antiperspirant and aluminium salt alternatives. Despite the growth, natural cosmetics still only account for 2% of the total market in France, with natural skin care the largest category.
