L'Oréal to close Monaco production facility

L'Oréal has announced the closure of its Sofamo plant in Monaco, one of its four sites in France. The unit specialises in the production of Biotherm and Helena Rubinstein face and body care products. Production is to be transferred to the Sicos plant at Caudry in northern France over the next two and a half years. The Caudry unit already makes Biotherm and Helena Rubinstein products.

The company has said the Monaco site presented problems of safety and environment, while its competitiveness has been declining. The operation is part of the group's strategy of so-called permanent restructuring. It now has 40 plants worldwide, 14 of which are in France.
