The German department store KarstadtQuelle has announced plans to boost sales by launching themed monthly offers at its 90 department stores and 30 sports good outlets in Germany, as well as cutting back its product range by up to 12%.

The company plans to use this strategy, as well as a further eight to ten premium department stores, to defy the negative department store market in Germany. The total market share of German department stores has fallen by two-thirds since the 1970s.
