A magnesium-infused tsunami has hit the beauty industry, with brands and consumers alike seeking out the hero ingredient in 2025.
The mineral, which helps turn eaten food into energy, is largely found in supplement form – with the magnesium vitamin market forecasted to reach US$8.94bn by 2034, reported analyst Custom Markets Insights.
Although supplements reign supreme, the ingredient is finding its way into new categories across skin care, hair care and even make-up.
Its popularity is growing thanks to its increasingly highlighted health benefits, which include supporting sleep, muscle and bone development, and skin health.
“Magnesium is an essential mineral that is crucial to ensure our cells, organs and brain function properly,” Georgina Tang, founder of skin care business YNNY, told Cosmetics Business.
“It also relaxes muscles, stabilises our moods, nervous and immune systems.
“Another function is aiding the absorption of vitamin D by converting it into an active form so that it can be used by our body to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy.”
And this growing reputation is why many on the internet are now dubbing it the “mineral of the moment”.
Tang continued: “In recent years, health and wellness have been at the top of people’s minds, so more and more consumers are turning to natural remedies as a first point of call when they want to improve wellbeing, rather than seeking a medical solution.
“This trend has been fuelled by social media, with hundreds-of-thousands of videos on TikTok alone raving about the positive effects of magnesium, and with celebrities including [actress] Gwyneth Paltrow, [singer] Taylor Swift and [presenter] Davina McCall recommending the mineral – the magnesium market exploded in 2025.”
There are more than 725,000 posts on TikTok under the hashtag #magnesium, with social media users posting about the benefits and their responses to taking the vitamin.
Farah Bashi, a cosmetic formulator and founder of Sachi Skin, added: “Consumers are starting to connect these dots too, seeing magnesium not just as a supplement, but as a foundation mineral for body and skin enzymatic and DNA repair processes.
“I do not think it is a fleeting trend; it is part of a bigger shift towards stress-adaptive, longevity-driven beauty, where minerals, peptides and adaptogens work together to restore balance inside and out.”
