Hair mists, body yoghurts and shaving gels enjoyed the biggest beauty sales spikes over the Black Friday shopping week, according to Klarna.
The fintech company’s US shopping data, comparing online purchases with Klarna from week 46 and week 47 of 2022, revealed that hair mist sales soared 420% week-on-week, while body yoghurt was up 332% and shaving gels increased 315%.
The Klarna Shopping Index also showed a Black Friday week boost in sales for blemish care (+182%), beard shampoos (+174%), hair perfectors (+134%) and lip treatments (+119%).
Further, Klarna’s 2022 Holiday Glow Up report also found that the top five beauty items and treatments on US consumers’ wish lists over the holiday season are massages (38%), skin care (38%), fragrance (36%) hairdressers vouchers (31%) and make-up (29%).
Hair mists are offered by the likes of Gisou, Jo Malone London and Byredo to impart fragrance and shine to hair.
The uptick in purchases of hair mists during this year's holiday sales follows a report from The NPD Group revealing a rise in prestige hair care sales as a result of the ‘skinnification’ of hair.
Looking at British sales, prestige hair products increased 67% from January to the end of September 2022, according to data from The NPD Group.
Hair oils, serums and shampoos and conditioners for specific hair concerns all fit into this trend and performed well, said the consumer research firm.
