The Italian company’s acquisition will let Givaudan boost its make-up and skin care capabilities

Givaudan has completed its acquisition of Italy’s B.kolormakeup & skincare.

The Swiss fragrance and beauty company bought 25% of B.kolor in 2021, but said acquiring the remainder will allow it to grow its solutions for make-up and skin care, having already built up a strong position in fine fragrance and hair care.

B.kolor, which was founded in 2000 and is headquartered near Milan, employs more than 300 people.

The company is best known for creative formulation design and the production of finished products for B2B customers.

These, according to Givaudan, focus on sensory benefits, as well as technical performance.

Givaudan Fragrance & Beauty’s President Maurizio Volpi said the deal would “generate additional value to our respective customers by providing a complete offer, combining a high level of science with excellence in design”.

Maria-Teresa Sancini, Chairwoman of B.kolor, added that B.kolor would benefit from Givaudan’s customer base and geographical footprint to expand into new territories.

Terms of the deal will not be disclosed, but the B.kolor business would have represented approximately CHF77m of incremental sales to Givaudan’s results in 2023, on a pro forma basis.

Last year, Givaudan inked a deal to buy the portfolio of cosmetics ingredients from synthetic biology firm Amyris, prior to the latter declaring bankruptcy.

This followed its 2022 acquisition of a 48% stake in Nanovetores Group, a Brazilian ingredients company specialising in encapsulation technologies.
