EU ministers authorise new non animal laboratory tests
Aim is to reduce animal numbers used for experimental purposes
European Union (EU) ministers have authorised new non-animal laboratory tests for assessing the safety of cosmetics ingredients and other chemicals under the EU’s REACH chemical control system.
The tests were screened by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development (OECD). The aim, said the EU Council of Ministers, is “reducing the numbers of animals used for experimental purposes”.
