Dr. Bronner’s, a US maker of soap products, is taking greater steps to show its support for a rise in the minimum wage in the region.
The family-owned company has been a long-time supporter of ‘fair pay’ and this year contributed $500,000 through its initiatives to state-level political campaigns and organisations such as The Fairness Project and Business for a Fair Minimum Wage.
Now Dr. Bronner’s is preparing to wear its heart on its sleeve, quite literally, with plans to roll-out special packaging for its 32oz liquid soap products featuring a ‘Fair Pay Today’ message on the labels. The packaging will be on shelves throughout 50 US states from 1 September.
The Fair Pay Today text replaces the brand’s usual labels. Dr. Bronner’s uses almost the whole label including the small print to get its message across. Part of the print reads: “When a person working 40 hours a week can’t cover the basic costs of living, there’s something deeply wrong with our economic system. Paying workers fairly isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s what makes our communities and businesses thrive” happy employees means lower turnover and higher productivity, and workers who make more spend more, putting money back into the economy.”
