French fragrance house Comptoir Sud Pacifique has opened a second Parisian boutique, at 76 rue de Seine in the Left Bank district of Saint-Germain.
The new outlet marks a new era for the company, says sole owner Valérie Pianelli-Guichard, who says she intends to continue the work of the brand’s founders and work to retain the meaning of the word ‘niche’.
“In our boutique on the Right Bank, we have mostly foreign clientele,” Pianelli-Guichard told Cosmetics Business about the new choice of location.
“The First Arrondissement isn’t very residential - it’s mostly a business quarter with tourism and luxury goods.
“So, it seemed to us almost a necessity to cross the Seine and set up in Saint Germain and get to know the Parisians who live in that quarter.”

The company worked with the design agency Tulum, which also designed the brand’s Right Bank boutique with Cent Degrès, on the interior for the new outlet.
“The two boutiques are different,” said Pianelli-Guichard, “because for the Saint-Germain project, we have chosen to highlight the architectural elements already present on site, such as the ceiling mouldings, the arches and the old oak parquet and - without taking away their essential nature - embellish them to serve the look of the brand.”
There will be two members of staff in the stop, and all the perfumes can be tested in the store, plus the outlet will hold regular olfactory workshops, said Pianelli-Guichard.
“These two Parisian boutiques will help us define a retail distribution model for the brand,” she added.
“Before envisaging, in the medium term, new boutiques - first of all in the big French towns and then in our principal international markets.”
