Clariant, the cosmetic active ingredient supplier, has formed a strategic partnership with Plant Advanced Technologies (PAT).
The deal includes the subscription of approximately 10% in equity shares of PAT by Clariant.
The two companies will develop and distribute new products, leveraging PAT's expertise in plant-based cosmetics active ingredients and Clariant's marketing and sales expertise through its own active ingredients business as well as its global network.
Hans Bohnen, Member of the Executive Committee at Clariant, said: “We are excited to further improve our offer to the personal care market through this new investment that reflects Clariant’s ongoing commitment to a more sustainable industry.
"The partnership with PAT drives this commitment further and will provide to our customers with best choices in the field of active ingredients.”
PAT uses two sustainable technologies to harness natural compounds from plants: plant milking and target binding.
Plant milking involves plant cultivation in aeroponic conditions – without the use of soil. Meanwhile target binding identifies the compounds in complex mixtures enabling cosmetics claims.
Jean-Paul Fèvre, President of PAT, added: "PAT has always been specialised in sourcing unsourceable rare active plant compounds in a sustainable innovative way and is very enthusiastic to establish such a strong partnership based on these common values.”
