In a long-awaited move, China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has announced that all imported ‘ordinary’ cosmetics will be exempt from animal testing from 1 May.
‘Ordinary’ cosmetics are products defined as those that do not have active claims, such as anti-ageing or anti-acne.
Brands will now be allowed to sell their products in the market as long as they provide a safety assessment and are made under Good Manufacturing Practice conditions.
