Nivea brand owner Beiersdorf has outlined solutions to the global plastic problem at the Plastic Free World Conference & Expo, including a new Nivea bottle with 50% less plastic.
The bottle and cap of the new Nivea Naturally Good Body Lotion have been designed to use half the plastic required for its standard body lotion packs. The very thin bottle has a uniquely shaped base that can be easily squeezed and rolled up tightly in a similar manner to a toothpaste tube, providing better restitution.
The bottle is fully recyclable after usage and because of the thinner, lighter profile, it provides improved pallet utilisation during transit.
Further to this new reveal, the Hamburg based brand owner, whose portfolio also includes skin care labels Eucerin and La Prairie, announced that it was on track for 90% of its PET bottles in Europe to include recycled plastic material by the end of this year.
Beiersdorf said this measure alone will save more than 1,200 tons of fossil-based virgin plastic per year.
